I was born in the year two-thousand thirty-five, two years after the end of WWIII. The effects of massive global warming and over-populating of the fragile Earth have turned the planet into what is in most places a wasteland. I live in such a wasteland.

The last war was fought for independence from American tyranny, the tyranny of decadence. Our founding fathers had failed in the grand design they had set forth for this country, anger had been released in the form of unconquerable rage from the cultural underclasses of America, we had failed to enlighten them. The military became overstretched in the years leading up to the entire global chaos. Countries like China, Russia, and Iran, long-standing enemies of America, had supplied weapons through impoverished and disenfranchised countries like Mexico and Cuba, to ethnic terrorists within the borders of our country. The growing American fundamentalism that began during the nineteen-sixties counter-culture revolution became the law of the land, all that were left who would fight, both within the army and amongst politicians were the remaining dogmatic believers in a faulty mass-created delusion of Jesus Christ, their savior, fit to their image. The country screamed for the blood of so-called "inferior races" once again and not just inferior races, inferior genetics and inferior breeding. Scientists were enslaved, and forced to create weapons for the extermination of all anti-American terrorists. Progressives and liberals were convicted of treason. American leaders were the only ones who understood that fear was necessary to maintain the balance of power.

Canada, which held less economic sway, remained loyal to the seemingly doomed Geneva conventions. I was born in Canada, in a small moderate and free-thinking commune which had predicted the pending war in the early twenty-first century. Alkali Basin, has spent the last sixty years building up makeshift technology, with the hopes of eventually building, through its alliance with the European Union and the intelligent technological advancement of its small community, the science of intergalactic travel. After the United states won the war, Russia and China were in ruins and the country closed its borders.
